Material Calculator

Estimate how much flagstone, gravel, or decomposed granite you need for your project. Bring your measurements to our yard and we'll help you finalize quantities.

Calculate Your Materials

Enter your project dimensions to estimate material quantities. Results are estimates — always add 10–15% for waste and cuts. Call us at (916) 363-4239 to verify.

Length of your patio or walkway
Use 1½"–2" for soft-set; 1¼" must be hard-set on concrete

Square Feet

Estimate includes 10% waste factor. Actual weight varies by stone type and thickness. Call us at (916) 363-4239 to confirm quantities before ordering.

Tons of Gravel
Cubic Yards

Based on approximately 1.4 tons per cubic yard. Add 10–15% for settling and waste. Actual weight varies by material type.

Tons of Cobbles / Pebbles

Cobbles and pebbles are sold by the ton for bulk orders, or by the bag for smaller quantities. Call (916) 363-4239 for current pricing.

Boulder quantities are typically determined by visual selection at our yard rather than by calculation. However, here are typical usage guidelines:

Boulder SizeApprox WeightTypical Use
6"–12"20–80 lbsAccents, borders, waterfall edges
12"–18"80–250 lbsGarden focal points, water features
18"–24"250–600 lbsWalls, major water features
24"–36"600–1,500 lbsRetaining walls, large waterfalls

Large boulders (over ~800 lbs) typically require crane placement. We can provide a crane company referral. Call (916) 363-4239 to discuss your boulder project.

Measuring Tips

  • For irregular shapes, break the area into rectangles and add them together
  • For circles, measure the diameter and multiply by itself then by 0.785
  • Always add 10–15% to your order for cuts, breaks, and future repairs
  • Flagstone is sold by weight — actual coverage varies by stone type and thickness
  • When in doubt, bring your measurements to our yard — we'll help you estimate
